Vermont is in the New England region of the US and was admitted to the Union on March 4, 1791, making it the 14th state.  The Abenaki, Algonquian, and Iroquois Native American tribes originally inhabited the state.  Unlike all the other New England states, it does not have an Atlantic Ocean coastline.  The state is well known for its scenery, dairy products and production of maple syrup.
